Chautauqua Park Engagement Photos | Abbie + Gabriel
There’s a reason so many couples choose Chautauqua Park for their engagement photos. Nestled at the base of the iconic Flatirons and just minutes from downtown Boulder, the location combines sweeping mountain views with easy accessibility. For couples looking for a setting that feels distinctly Colorado while still being incredibly convenient to reach, Chautauqua offers the best of both worlds.
The park sits only a few minutes from the heart of Boulder, making it simple for couples to meet for a session without needing to venture deep into the mountains. With open meadows, scenic trails, and the dramatic backdrop of the Flatirons, it’s a place that feels adventurous while still being relaxed and approachable. Whether you’re local to Boulder or visiting from nearby areas like Denver, it’s an easy and beautiful spot to celebrate this season of life.
For Abbie and Gabriel, the location carried an extra layer of meaning. Abbie grew up in Boulder, so returning to Chautauqua for their engagement photos felt especially nostalgic. Walking the same paths she grew up exploring—now alongside her fiancé—made the evening feel both sentimental and joyful. It’s always special when a location already holds memories for a couple, and this session felt full-circle in the most beautiful way.
The session included two outfits that helped tell different parts of their story. Up first I usually have couples start with their more dressed up look. Practically speaking it’s usually the less warm option and when the sun goes down it’s nice to be in your comfy clothes (usually includes some sort of pant). So the couple began in a more elevated, dressed-up look with Abby in a white dress with lots of texture, and Gabriel in a buttoned green shirt and white pants. I liked that they stayed causal but their outfits overall looked more upscale without looking too out of place of the views. Sometimes I think it can look a little funky if someone wears an overly dressed up suit or gown and we are at a trailhead that feels more rugged in the photos. These two NAILED their first look and even moreso the second outfit was my favorite.
I really appreciated how cinematic the whole engagement session felt as Abbie and Gabriel ran through the grass with bare feet, laughed, and spun around in circles like nobody was watching. I really like to feel out the energy of each couple when I photograph them and these two in paricular had lots of high energy and willingness to do more movement. You can clearly see how beautifully the different directions I gave them to involve more high energy movement turned out.
As the evening wound down, the mood shifted from polished to carefree. At the end of the session, we brought the high energy down and did more laying down in the field, snuggling up to one another and enjoying the small moments where A+G just held on to one another.
Cinematic engagement sessions at Chautauqua have a way of balancing breathtaking scenery with genuine connection. I’ve photographed couples and seniors here over the years and each time it feels special and unique. Between the iconic views, the accessibility of the park, and the personal history Abbie shared with the place, this specific engagement session felt both nostalgic and effortlessly fun.. exactly what engagement photos should be!! ✨
