Boulder Flower Farm Butterfly Release Wedding | Anne + Kyle

There’s a few locations around that are strictly meant for smaller, intimate weddings. They are hard to find but they are extremely valuable for those who want to have a nice place for a ceremony and a toast but don’t want the whole shabang of a large wedding venue.

Boulder Flower Farm is a perfect place for an intimate wedding right near Boulder, Colorado. They have a wonderful outdoor space with crops of beautiful flowers growing on 10 acres of property. They also have an indoor space with a lovely house that has getting-ready spaces and a tuscan-home feeling. A patio and lawn just off the back of the house was the setting for our ceremony site, while the gazebo covered in beautiful grapes plants was the spot for our intimate cocktail hour with toasts. The Boulder Flower farm has wedding packages for up to 100 people or if you want a wedding under 25 people you can do something with just your closest friends and family.

When I arrived at the flower farm there was plenty of parking - a real dream for a wedding venue! I got to walk through the farm to see all the beautiful varieties of flowers they were growing outside. They also have an indoor greenhouse space where they have even more blooms planted.

The house was the space where everyone was casually hanging out and getting ready. I loved how casual the whole day was. Although we had planned to do a first look it was very relaxed with both families just chatting and sitting on the patio enjoying the morning together. Even Anne and Kyle were together all morning working on planning the final details of chairs, table settings and set up together. It was truly a group effort and a very laid-back approach to two families coming together to bond their loved ones together in matrimony.

Anne had also mentioned to me that they would have videography coverage of the day and it just happened to be one of my favorite videographers in Colorado: Rocky Mountain Films! Their main videographer Ben is a great mix of go with the flow, and helps with the creative direction of shots so we can both get the best of the best footage and photos.

Our first look with the couple was private and just the two of them. We picked a spot under the trees out back of the house in the lawn so that they could share their first embrace together with just the two of them. Rocky Mountain Films did such a great job capturing the video side of watching Kyle’s eyes light up with joy when he turns to see Anne for the first time.

Kleppen with Elevate Wedding Officiants has such a great way of putting together a funny, yet heartfelt, and really authentic story-telling approach to a wedding ceremony. He delivered a really lovely story about how the couple met, their common interests, and threw in a few really great jokes to put everyone at ease.

After the ceremony, we took all the combinations of family photos including some couples photos of the parents and siblings families. I love smaller weddings because we actually have the time and space to squeeze in photos of the parents just by themselves, or a family that is there that got their two-year-old dressed up and in a good mood for the day.

From there we went into first dances and WOW did all the dances have so much energy. Anne and Kyle had choreographed a fun and spunky high energy dance including some lifts and lots of energetic moves. I loved how much it matched their personalities and that they picked a song and a dance style that felt like them!

The same went for the parent first dances. They had lots of fun moves and energy including some impromptu pretzel moves, losing a shoe, and so much more. I want to know where they all learned to dance! It was such a fun and lighthearted moment.

Toasts were given by many family members sharing beautiful heartfelt stories, and some truly hilarious anecdotes about the couple.

The final portion of the wedding included portraits and a butterfly send-off. Butterfly releases traditionally represent hope and transformation. It is such a fitting metaphor for the whole day and the love this couple united in marriage. I learned SO much about butterflies this day because the brother of the groom was a butterfly keeper. He knew so much about making a safe environment for the butterflies to turn from caterpillars to butterflies. There is so much to know about all of it and it’s absolutely fascinating to learn. I highly recommend you do a butterfly release and contact The Hatchery Butterfly Farm!
