Flower Girl Alternatives

You might find yourself wanting to shake things up and do an alternative to a flower girl on your wedding day for the ceremony. You have come to the right place! There are many reasons you could be seeking an alternative. Maybe your venue doesn’t allow flowers on the ground, or you just want something different than the traditional baby girl who forgets to toss the flowers and then dumps the whole basket at the end of the aisle. I’ve seen it all!

Flower Child

You can have either a male or female child toss flowers down the aisle. This might be perfect if you don’t have a female child in your life to toss the flowers, or if she is too young and needs a counterpart to help her out. Alternatively, I’ve seen some kids who fill both the ring bearer and flower child slot.

Flower Dude / Beer Dude

This has been a huge trend I’ve seen in the last few years and certainly one to get some comic relief. There’s always a lot of anticipation and all eyes on the partner who is waiting on the end of the aisle. So, having an adult flower “dude” who puts on a bit of a show for everyone as they prance down the aisle like salt bae is really fun for everyone. I have also seen a duo where a beer dude hands out beverages before the ceremony and the officiant has an honorary time to “crack em open” before the ceremony officially begins. If you have a ceremony where you allow guests to drink during this is a really fun alternative to having a flower girl do the toss.

Flower Grandparents

One of my all-time favorite alternatives to a flower girl is the flower grandma. If you have a grandma or grandfather in attendance, chances are they would be overjoyed to be part of your ceremony processional. In many cases you can get a member of the wedding party to escort them down the aisle as they toss flowers as they make their way to the front of the aisle.

Flower Pets

Flower pets are becoming more and more common at Colorado weddings because everyone LOVES their pets here. Often you can put a flower collar on your dog or kitty and have them come down the aisle with an escort or let them off leash and have them run to their parent on the other side of the aisle. It’s pretty often that they need as escort because there are so many distracting smells on the way down the aisle but it always includes another member of the family if the venue allows pets at your ceremony site.

Other alternative you might consider when you are planning your wedding day:

Lavender or rice: If you can’t have flower petals where you are having your ceremony use an alternate such as lavender or rice.

Here comes the bride/groom sign: If you don’t want a flowered aisle but still like the anticipation.. Have one of your wedding party, junior wedding party, or child come down the aisle with a sign reading “Here Comes the Bride” or “Here comes the Groom”

Wedding Party Tosses Flowers: You can have the role of the final few coming down the aisle in the wedding party to toss flowers on their way down.

Pre-Flower the Aisle: This way the florals already look great. Then, nobody holds the responsibility to toss any florals.
